What is identity – my own identity? A construction of all the aspects of my personality that I perceive, including those that are mirrored back to me? Cracks and fractures open up before my inner eye and reveal a look behind the surface, but only for those who look closely. I find bridges, join all the parts into a whole that is consistent in itself. And yet tomorrow it may already be different. There would be countless possibilities.

This work is deliberately built from different strips of canvas: front and back alike. The surface between the pieces of canvas remains open – the background becomes visible (no matter whether it is a white wall 2 cm away or a space of its own whose design is only limited by one’s imagination). The colors were applied afterwards, deliberately across both sides of the fractures.

What is my image of myself: a construction of the pasts – of the perceived impressions that I put together: a retrospective or an outlook – a preview of what will be / can be?
